If you are an employer, please see the Sleep-friendly Employer award, which aims to support working-age adults in their workplace.
Our Sleep Counselling training is for professionals who work with children and young people with additional support needs, including social workers, doctors, health visitors, psychologists, teachers, specialist nurses, youth workers, residential workers, and occupational therapists. We also offer Sleep Counselling for Adults.
Our Sleep Counselling training is for professionals who work with adult service users with additional support needs. This can include learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, mental and physical health conditions, and complex cases. Course delegates usually come from nursing, occupational therapy, social work, support work or medical background.
Sleep Awareness training is for professionals who work with typically developing children, particularly those working 1:1 with children and families to conduct sleep assessments and implement sleep plans.
Our Sound Sleep training is tailored for education professionals who work with children in a school setting (either primary or secondary). It aims to educate young people on the importance of sleep and how to improve it in a classroom environment. Resources provided include lesson plans and activities matched against curriculum levels.
Supporting Good Sleep course is for Psychological Counsellors and Therapists working with adult clients. You need to demonstrate you are a member of a professional counselling/therapy body to attend. The course aims to provide delegates with knowledge and skills to incorporate sleep advice in their practice.
Paediatric Sleep Day is a one-day webinar designed for Consultant Paediatricians and related professions in the medical field.
This course is designed to increase awareness of sleep issues amongst children and young people, present the latest information and research in the field and be a CPD opportunity for those working in the Paediatric field.
If you would like to train to be a more hands-on practitioner and work with families 1:1 on sleep improvement, we would recommend Sleep Awareness or Sleep Counselling courses instead.
Sleep Counselling/for Adults comprises 20 hrs of self-led learning, which you will complete ahead of the course start date on our learning platform, three morning online sessions with our lecturers to revise the knowledge and practice your new skills, 8-10 weeks of self-directed activity within your workplace-during which time you will be expected to start your own sleep support case study with one of your service users and final morning online workshop designed to be a peer discussion on the case study experiences.

The following courses: Sound Sleep, Sleep Awareness, Sleep Counselling, and Sleep Counselling for Adults, are designed for professionals working with vulnerable groups, where completion of such training is mandatory for their role. If the professional was working on sleep improvement with their service user and had any reasons to raise protection/safeguarding concerns they should have appropriate knowledge on how to do so in their working environment. We ask you to confirm your training on protection/safeguarding is current, we will not ask to see your certificate. Online self-led training, as well as face-to-face training, are both suitable and will be accepted.
Each of our training courses has an intended use, and all delegates should adhere to this guidance. Using Sleep Scotland materials to set up or run a private sleep practice and charge clients for sleep advice is against our copyright and stipulations from our funding partners.
