Krystyna

Parent to 21-month-old son

Our lives have been transformed – without your support I would have struggled to implement the changes.

By listening to and understanding her concerns, Krystyna's Sleep Advisor helped create a sleep plan that worked for her family, gradually reducing night feeds and improving bedtime with her partner and child.

Why Krystyna contacted Sleep Action

  • Krystyna wanted strategies to manage and reduce her 21-month-old son Tomasz’s night-wakenings
  • Tomasz enjoyed breastfeeds at bedtime and throughout the night
  • Tomasz was waking for the day as early as 4:30am and was grumpy and irritable by evening time
  • Krystyna felt she was struggling to juggle work and family pressures with little support from her partner, Jurek
  • Krystyna had consulted social media and tried sleep training, but this had not helped

How we helped Krystyna

Our Sleep Advisor spent around an hour listening to Krystyna to learn about Tomasz’ behaviour and to understand Krystyna’s feelings. Krystyna explained that she did not want to stop breastfeeding completely, but felt she needed to cut out night feeds. Together, they agreed on a sleep plan for Krystyna and Jurek to follow.

Krystyna spoke with Tomasz’ nursery about making his nap times more consistent and gradually reducing them. Krystyna and Jurek also made sure that mealtimes and bathtimes were more consistent. They adjusted the evenings so that there was a chance for Tomasz to spend more one-to-one time with his parents. By following a consistent wind down routine with quieter activities, Tomasz was more sleepy at bedtime, and it was easier for Jurek to settle him with a back rub instead of Krystyna feeding him. Krystyna and Jurek used quieter voices, repeated phrases and songs to help Tomasz understand that nighttime was for sleep.

Tomasz quickly cut out night feeds, and his wake-up times became gradually later.

Scottish sleep support line

Sleep Action can offer families resident in Scotland one-to-one sleep support for any child aged 18 months-18 years. Our Sleep Advisors complete a telephone sleep assessment, asking questions on current routines, diet, exercise, and the sleep issue. This can take around an hour. They will then create a sleep plan of cognitive and behavioural changes based on the responses.
